Juventus warmed up for their top-of-the-table clash with Napoli by beating Sampdoria 4-1 in Turin.

Antonio Cassano's Sampdoria career over - president Massimo Ferrero

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has confirmed that Antonio Cassano's days at the club are over.

Cassano, 33, still has a year left to run on his contract with the Blucerchiati, but Ferrero announced at a news conference on Wednesday that he intends to sit down with the Bari-born striker and discuss a premature termination of that contract.

"Cassano and I are gentlemen and we're going to find a solution for the future," 

Ferrero said. "He appreciated my efforts to bring him back here, but now the time has come to turn the page. I love Cassano -- I've got nothing against him personally.

The former Italy forward newy8games after spending over seven months out of the game after walking away from Parma following their bankruptcy.

He had previously played for Samp between 2008 and 2011 before a disagreement with their former president, the late Riccardo Garrone, saw him moved on to AC Milan.

Palermo 2-0 Sampdoria

Palermo took a major step towards securing their Serie A status by beating Sampdoria 2-0 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

A first-half goal from Franco Vazquez and Nenad Krsticic's late own goal saw Davide Ballardini's men draw level on 35 points with 17th-placed Carpi, with just two games of the season remaining.

Sampdoria might have lost by a bigger margin had it not been for the performance of goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.

Carpi's earlier 2-0 defeat to Juventus left the door open for Palermo to close the gap and the Sicilians took full advantage.

They had to resist two early attempts on goal from Samp striker Fabio Quagliarella before Vazquez grabbed the opener in the 19th minute.

A poor error from Andrea Ranocchia allowed Palermo's Argentina-born midfielder to dribble his way into a position to smash the ball beyond Viviano, and the home crowd duly erupted.

Five minutes before the break Michel Morganella nearly made it 2-0 when receiving a pass from the industrious Gilardino and forcing a fine reflex save from Viviano.

Palermo continued to turn the screw when play resumed and Viviano had to make a smart stop on Gilardino before Enzo Maresca's volley ended up in the Favorita stands.

Vazquez and Gilardino would both come knocking again as time ticked away and, in the 85th minute, the latter got his reward for a committed display.

The former Parma and AC Milan man rubber-stamped a vital Palermo victory by steering Vazquez's assist into Krsticic's legs and over the line.

Empoli 1-1 Sampdoria

Vincent Laurini's first Empoli goal earned a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the Stadio Castellani.

Empoli, who had not won for nine matches and lost four in a row, saw a goal ruled out on 14 minutes when former Sampdoria striker Massimo Maccarone was flagged offside.

Manuel Pucciarelli's shot from the edge of the area then rolled past on-rushing Empoli goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, but hit a post.

Sampdoria took the lead on 42 minutes after Fabio Quagliarella's shot on the turn was deflected into the top corner off Laurini.

But Empoli earned a point on 81 minutes when the French defender headed in a free-kick from Mario Rui at the far post.
